Aleppo chilies have citrus and sun-dried tomato flavors and a pleasantly mild heat. This pepper, also known as Halaby, has been traditionally grown in the ancient city of Aleppo, in Syria. It is widely used in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine and is often used as a condiment for sprinkling on everything from pizza to deviled eggs and salads. It is also used for seasoning grilled meats and can substitute where crushed pepper is called for in recipes.
